Jocelyn Duford and John Manning will perform in a play reading of “First Night” by Jack Neary in the Monadnock Region’s River Street Theatre.

JAFFREY — Award-winning Boston playwright Jack Neary’s play “First Night” will be presented as a reading at the River Street Theatre (RST), a project of The Park Theatre, at 2 p.m. Saturday.

“First Night” is set in 1985, during New Year’s Eve. Danny Fleming, in his mid-30s, is about to close up his video store for the evening when into the store pops a woman he believes he remembers from grammar school. What he remembers most is that this woman went away to be a nun. Follow him as he questions why she is there, and why he cares.

The reading, at 6 River St., stars John Manning and Jocelyn Duford. Neary will be in attendance and will conduct a talk-back with the audience after the performance.

“It has humor, charm, soul and heart,” said Steve Jackson, chief executive officer and managing director of the Park Theatre. “We hope to present more readings at the RST in the coming months. Readings of new and existing plays will be a regular staple of the new Park Theatre performing arts center when it opens.”

Neary’s work has been featured on the Players’ stage previously; “Auld Lang Syne” played there in 2012, with Kathy Manfre and Gordon Clapp (Emmy Award-winning actor from “NYPD Blue”) in the starring roles.

Tickets are free and can be obtained by visiting RiverSt.org or calling 532-8888.
