Although the sextortion cases that participants described unfolded in a variety of ways, there were two

basic contexts in which these incidents developed: face-to-face relationships (about 60% of cases) and

online relationships (about 40% of cases). These two contexts showed substantial differences in dynamics,

such as the speed at which incidents unfolded, the nature of threats, and how situations were, or

were not, resolved.
