BARRINGTON — It was 1996. Andy Miller was at the tail end of his 40s, looking for a way to wind down a frenetic career that took him to the oil fields of Singapore and, later, the world of traveling industrial equipment sales.
A variety of opportunities presented themselves within close reach of his home in Exeter, but none met his stringent criteria as well as the then-5-year-old Warren’s Hardware on Route 125 in Barrington. Running the business side of a small-town, mom-and-pop hardware store seemed appealing. Little did he know that it would be anything but a wind-down.
