It was not the first time, and such incidents are becoming more common. In 2017, CBP arrested 25 illegal immigrants at a roadblock in New Hampshire about 75 miles from the Canadian border as the crow flies (longer by the twisting mountain roads). Earlier this year, CBP officers boarded a bus in Bangor, Maine, in a search similar to the Fort Lauderdale incident. In none of these cases did the government officials have a warrant.
